Kirkmont Utility District has completed its temporary free chlorine conversion and has returned to its normal chloramine disinfection process.
The temporary conversion from chloramine to free chlorine was performed as part of the District’s routine preventative maintenance program to help maintain water quality throughout the distribution system. During the conversion, the system was flushed and monitored to ensure the temporary disinfectant change was effective.
What should customers expect
As the water system transitions back to chloramine, some customers may temporarily notice changes in the taste, smell, color, or appearance of their water as water moves through the distribution system. These conditions should improve as the system returns to normal operations.
Customers may continue to use their water as usual for drinking, cooking, bathing, watering lawns and gardens, and other everyday uses. Both free chlorine and chloramine are approved disinfectants, and the District’s water is treated in accordance with state and federal drinking water standards.
A reminder for fish, reptiles, and dialysis users:
Fish & Reptile Owners: The District has returned to chloramine disinfection. Continue to properly treat water used for fish tanks, ponds, or reptiles with products designed to remove or neutralize both chlorine and chloramine.
Home Dialysis Users: Continue to follow your dialysis equipment manufacturer’s instructions for properly treating water prior to use.
